Professional Background
Dr. Codel received his Doctorate in Dental Surgery from Northwestern University in 2001. He spent a post graduate year performing hospital dentistry at the Illinois Masonic Medical Center General Practice Residency Program. For 10 years, Dr.Codel maintained a medical staff appointment at the Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago where he also acted as an attending dentist. His responsibilities included teaching current residents in the clinic and in public health dentistry on the mobile dental van which serves the Chicagoland underserved community. Dr. Codel is a former adjunct faculty member at the University of Illinois College of Dentistry
Prior to attending dental school, Dr. Adrian attended Boston University where he earned his Bachelors degree in Biology and Masters degree in Cell and Molecular Biology.
Dr. Codel is currently a member of the American Dental Association, Chicago Dental Society, California Dental Association and Santa Clara County Dental Society.
Philanthropic interests are in Give Kids the World, Make a Wish Foundation and H.E.R.O.E.S. Dr. Codel’s son Cael; who has a number of medical complications, was granted a wish from the Make a Wish Foundation. In April 2012 he and his family went on a Disney Wish Trip and stayed at Give Kids the World; a life changing experience for the entire family.
Personal Background
Dr. Codel primarily grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan. While attending East Grand Rapids High School he also ran on the cross country team and was a springboard diver on the swimming and diving team. While studying at Boston University, he joined the diving team, where he met his wife who was manager of the swim team. After receiving his Master’s Degree in Cell and Molecular Biology, Dr. Codel moved to Chapel Hill, NC where he got married to his college sweetheart and worked as a Cytogenetics technician extracting chromosomes from amniocentisis samples for analysis. It was in the college town of Chapel Hill that he was exposed to the active dental community and decided to apply to dental school.
In 1996, while in Chapel Hill, Dr. Codel took classes on vegetarian Indian cooking and has remained a vegetarian ever since after discovering the explosion of flavors offered by meatless meals.
Dr. Codel and his wife are the proud parents of 3 boys, including one with special needs. As a result, they are active members of the Down Syndrome community. The have lived in Chicago, Dallas and currently the Bay Area of California. After his first Texas summer of 90 days straight with 100+ degree heat, Dr. Codel began his practice of Bikram yoga to help him physically, mentally and to acclimate him to the heat.
When not spending time with his family, Dr. Codel enjoys all things wonky, mountain biking, Bikram Yoga, hockey and cooking.
